Derek Stirling Appointed Senior Coach for 2014/15

HNCC is delighted to announce the appointment of Derek Stirling as the Senior Coach for the 2014/15 season!
Derek’s resume is pretty impressive…

I am currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hawkes Bay Cricket Association and upon consultation with Hawkes Bay Cricket there is no conflict of interest (as long as I am not an elected officer of the HNCC) and therefore I am able to pursue my desire to coach at HNCC.

I have NZC Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching qualifications.

Brief Personal History.

I have in recent years been involved in coaching the following:

Hastings Boys High School 1st XI (adviser), ; HBHS 2nd Xl Div 2, HBHS Colts two years –winning through to the NZ Cricket National Championship, HNCC Super league teams winning 4 consecutive SL titles, Hawkes Bay U12,13,14,16 – losing two games in ; 4 years, adviser to HB U17’s. Havelock North Intermediate two years with the 1st XI and 1 year with the 2nd XI, Te Mata Red Caps three years 1st XI, 2nd XI.

I was a Manawatu Cricket Association staff coach and also had one season as the Taranaki CA Junior staff coach.

I had an extensive playing career including 11 first class seasons with Central Districts and Wellington. In all games taking 294 first class and list A (50 over) wickets and scoring over 2,100 first class and List A runs.

I played Hawkes Cup cricket for Manawatu and Taranaki.

I played professionally in England and Scotland as an overeseas’s contracted professional which also involved coaching.

I played 20 matches for New Zealand including 6 test matches and 6 ODI’s and toured Sri Lanka (2), England and Holland, West Indies and Pakistan in full New Zealand touring teams and also Zimbabwe and Australia in New Zealand Emerging Player teams.

I was Player/Coach of the Karori Premier Men’s team for 5 years. ;

I wrote the Strategic Five Year Plan for the Hastings Boys High School cricket programme.

I initiated and led the complete redevelopment of the HBHS Cricket block and the development and subsequent build of a new cricket pavilion at HBHS.

 

My Coaching Vision for the Havelock North Cricket Club

Includes the following:

• Responsible for developing all Premier and 2nd team players cricket knowledge as well as their technical, physical, mental, tactical skills.
• Ensure the Premier Men’s teams has performance targets in conjunction with the Clubs vision.
• Formulate, develop and implement pre-season and in-season training programs for Prem/Senior Men’s squad- involve Secondary school age players from our Junior Club.
• Oversee, coordinate, evaluate and lead the Premier team during match days.
• Initiate individual goals for all squad members.
• Communicate the coaching philosophy and selection process to the players.
• Co-ordinate the team dynamics to maximize individual and team performance, instilling a culture of success within the side.
• Be proactive in identifying problems of any sort that affect team performance and raise any issues that with the HNCC Playing Committee personally in a timely manner to enable appropriate responses and solutions to be implemented.
• Co-ordinate the team build up, individual preparation and the team game plan.
• To develop and promote HNCC players for representative honours and beyond.
• To develop a clear recruitment strategy and build relationships with our feeder High Schools to ensure a supply of cricketers of all abilities and aspirations to join HNCC.
• To initiate via the Committee a need on an annual basis of the services on overseas playing professional.

My Values:

I aim to be fair and EQUITABLE in my decision making.

I will endeavour to establish an ENJOYABLE environment, one in which cricket people can be PASSIONATE
about the sport they love and have PRIDE in the “Village”.

I believe in TEAMWORK, being reliable, honest and open with each other, on and off the field.
